So, you’re dreaming of van life? You’ve seen the pictures and experiences and want to get a taste of it yourself.
Luckily, you don’t need to buy a van to get the experience. There are several Canadian companies offering rental campervans, converted minivans, trailers, and RVs. Some are extremely affordable or even free.

When looking for a campervan, there are many considerations to keep in mind. When we reviewed campervans, we looked for the price, vehicles offered, and additional perks included in the price.
Watch out for deals that do not include any insurance or kilometers. If you need an additional driver, kitchen supplies, and/or bedding, then keep that in consideration when looking for a campervan rental. Buying these as add-ons can increase the price quickly. Also, things like travel to the territories of the USA often cost additional. Pet fees can vary from $100 to $200, so make sure to include that cost as well.
The cheaper option is to rent from a peer. This is similar to Airbnb-style rentals. However, instead of a company that owns many RVs, you’re renting for a person who has one or two. This option is often the cheapest.
The absolute cheapest is Transfercar. We reviewed Transfercar in this article. Sometimes you can find deals for less than $10. While they seem to have limited availability in Canada, it is worth checking their website. Sometimes you can find free or nearly free car rentals to use for road tripping or at your destination of choice. They occasionally have RVs and camper vans as well. But you need to check regularly and not be married to your departure date.
An excellent in-between choice, is a local RV/campervan rental company. We’ve included Alberta, BC, and Quebec local campervan rental options. These companies often only have a couple cities they service but are usually cheaper and/or offer more perks in their price than their larger company competitors.
Just Remember…
When we included the price of campervans, we often saw the lowest available price on the website. This means that the price you pay per night could end up being considerably more depending on the van you rent and the add-ons you need. Consider the price estimates as bare minimum base prices.
